Lori Weitzner has been internationally known for her contributions to the world of textiles and wallcoverings for more than thirty years. As VP and Design Director of Weitzner Limited, Lori brings her signature aesthetic and sophisticated colour sense to all the brand’s textiles and wallcoverings
“Fabrics and wallcoverings are the soul of a space”
With the time-old tools of colour, texture, and pattern, Weitzner ltd was formed, creating materials that engage the senses and evoke curiosity, calm, and beauty. Dedicated to environmental consciousness and performance, the line also offers four unique perspectives: Weitzner Handmade, products made by hand by worldwide contemporary artisans; Weitzner Smart, innovative products that incorporate new technologies and present forward-thinking design solutions for our clients; Weitzner Perform, products that utilize special materials, finishes, and constructions to exceed industry standards; and Weitzner Indoor﹢Outdoor, fabrics designed to enhance indoor and outdoor spaces alike.
Founded as a boutique company focusing mainly on handmade wallcoverings in 2004; as the brand expanded, Weitzner merged operations with Pollack in 2011 and launched its textile line in 2013. Today, Weitzner features a wide variety of fabric and wallcovering options, all unified under Lori's signature aesthetic.
Weitzner recently won the Homes & Gardens Award for Wallpaper Innonvation for their wallcovering – Pergola. For this month’s Brand Focus we delve deeper into the world of Weitzner Handmade and how these unique and versatile panels are created.
Weitzner Handmade is committed to preserving the time-honoured techniques and artistry of those who make a product by hand. With every intention that these skills will not merely survive, but thrive, Weitzner work with artisans around the world to provide a contemporary marketplace for their soulful products.
“Design possibilities abound when the product itself is a work of art”
Weitzner’s handmade wallcovering panels add a touch of the unique to any room. These versatile products can be used in several ways, from a statement wallcovering to a creative room divider, a distinctive table top to a standalone piece of art.
These wallcoverings begin life as a variety of natural fibres - salago, mulberry pulp or fig tree bark. First the fibres are washed and, in some cases, dyed. Mixtures are then prepared using a selection of different fibres, dependant on the Weitzner product being created. This mixture is then squeezed and manipulated (by hand) to form the pattern.
When the pattern is finished, it is left out in the sun to dry.
