For this brand focus we delve into the world of Bouclé. The French term Bouclé, meaning ‘curled’ or ‘looped’, refers to a type of knotted, irregular novelty yarn and the finished knitted or woven fabric it is used to create. A Bouclé yarn (or novelty yarn) is created by wrapping one or more irregular yarns around a twisted core with varying tension. Using this yarn to knit or weave a fabric results in a highly texturized surface of small curls or loop.

Glant has been producing a continuous offering of the design world’s most luxurious and beautiful bouclés since the mid Seventies when the Glant Collection made its debut. But Glant’s creation and expertise of bouclés actually began in the mid Fifties, it was at this time the Glant owned mill in Italy first began creating bouclés for high-end Italian furniture manufacturers, a period that began then and is now referred to as Italian Modern. Glant’s mill was at the centre of this exciting and historic design movement.

In the Fifties, the high-end interior and fashion worlds almost simultaneously caught onto bouclé, with iconic designers such as Coco Chanel, Hubert de Givenchy and Christian Dior all embracing this unique texture within their collections.

Today Glant’s bouclés are offered in a wide range of nubbiness, fibre and colour. Within this range are many timeless bouclé constructions introduced throughout Glant’s history which sit perfectly alongside new textures within this category as Glant continue to introduce new and unique bouclé textiles into their latest and ongoing collections.
